Q + A

Travel / RSVP

Do I really have to come? I don't even like you guys that much

We get that it's pretty indulgent to have our wedding over the other side of the world. There'll be a hundred different reasons why people can't make it and that's completely fine. We especially understand that this is a pretty big ask for people with young kids or if you're strapped for cash or leave from work. We will have an event in Sydney or NZ as well to celebrate with all of those who are unable to make it.

When is the RSVP Deadline?

Please give us a rough indication by mid-Jan 2024. Given numbers are limited for the event we haven't been able to invite everyone we would wish. If you think there's no chance you can make it then let us know and we can invite our second-tier mates. We get this is a short turnaround for a long way away, so we know it's only indicative. We'll set a date much further forward in the future for the solid RSVPs.

Can I bring a +1?

Yeah nah. If we can't have Molly, you can't bring your latest Hinge hook up. But seriously if things are getting serious, let us know and we will run the numbers.

Travelling with Kiddies / Medical stuff

We've planned the wedding to be at the peak of the dry season so there should be the lowest amount of bugs and mosquitoes around. We recommend everyone to wear long pants, covered shoes and sleeves at night and apply mosquito repellent on any exposed skin. If you're diligent then you should be fine, but everyone's risk tolerances are different so we suggest you speak with your GP or travel doctor about it and decide if you want to take anti-malaria medication as well.

Malaria

Those pesky little P. falciparum are in the area. So we suggest practicing anti-mozzie behaviours - i.e. bring your best DEET and long sleeves for the evenings. We also highly recommend chatting to your own Dr. about malaria chemoprophylaxis - the area has Chloroquine resistance. Current CDC recommendations for the area are: Atovaquone-proguanil, doxycycline, mefloquine, or tafenoquine.

Zika

The region in question is currently in the "Yellow - Mosquito Present but No Reported Cases" Zone. Current CDC travel advice is: Prevent mosquito bites during and after travel. But of course if you are planning to be pregnant around that time, chat to your doctor and be comfortable with a decision to come or not. Bear in mind, it is not mosquito season at this time of year. Best source of up to date information is via the CDC at: https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/page/zika-information

Other Medical things to ponder

We're not in a yellow fever destination, so that's one less needle to worry about. Eager travellers may want to check they are up to date with: hepatitis A, hepatitis B, typhoid, polio, measles, mumps and rubella (MMR), Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis), influenza and COVID-19 (yay!).

Children

We love your little ones, even the ones we haven't met yet, and they are all more than welcome. The accomodation is fenced, and we will arrange minding/entertainment for them so you can let your hair down for the odd game drive and during the party.

Preparing for the Trip

What will the weather be like?

Like Wellington on a good day! The average weather for August in the region is a high of 28 degrees and a low of 13 with 0 days of rain. It's pretty unreal, but you'll still want to pack some decent warm gear as being out there on an open top game viewer at sunrise for a game drive going at 30kmph can be pretty cold.

What should I pack?

Safari Chic baby! A more fleshed out packing list will come in due course. But in the mean time think a little more tonal linen and a little less Bindi Irwin.

Gifts

Nah g, but you are more than welcome to donate to Pete's Koru Camp which operates on the same game reserve as we will be visiting for the wedding. Check them out here! https://korucamp.org All donations are tax-deductible. We'll likely schedule something in during the week for everyone to head into Koru Camp on a game drive and see what the location there is all about and meet the team.

Accommodation / Food

What will the accommodation be like?

We'll all be staying in the same camp on the same game reserve where Tanglewood Pete runs his community conservation camp. The camp can sleep ~32 people in chalets and the rest of the group will be made up of large canvas tents on the lawn with stretchers and bedding supplied. Here's a link to the location, it's currently undergoing a change of management (...) Check it out here: https://www.booking.com/hotel/za/nzuwizi-river-lodge.en-gb.html

Where will it be?

It'll be on Mvuu Game Reserve, which is inside Balule Game Reserve, which itself is within the Greater Kruger National Park. It's about an hours drive from Hoedspruit. https://maps.app.goo.gl/AtoobMyswx4hsU31A
